Highland Fling 2025
The Highland Fling 2025 took place on the weekend Fri 23rd May to Sun 25th May. After having so many weeks of beautiful weather the forecast was not looking good. Friday night saw some drowned rats appear but by the morning things were looking up. The main run headed to Fort Augustas and onto the Foyers road eastwards. The 1st summit found us pacing ahead of the rain along with our 1st breakdown. Avoiding the local bus a chunk of granite nipped a tyre, 3 straw plugs later and the tyre was up and away… quicker than an Kwik-fit fitter. Onward to Daviot then Carrbridge & we stopped for lunch in Grantown-of-Spey. Sun was out and all was well. Next we headed along the A95 passing many famous Speyside distilleries, through Ballindaloch, Aberlour (just missed a huge deluge of rain) and then North to Elgin. Not wanting to head home too early, a quick sprint up-to Lossiemouth found us stripped off basking in sunshine with ice-creams and golden sands by the seaside. Other riders had an enjoable day out, some head over to Loch Carron and the Bealach na Ba route to Applecross only to be met with murky haze. Glen Affric was also visited with some stunnning views and good weather.

We had thought that we would all be in the pub avoiding the rain but what a turn around. A great evening was had, Robbie and Liz excelled with providing the best homemade pizza in the Highlands, rounded off with a bit of craic around the fire-pit until the rain forced us inside. Sunday morning started off fresh and dry but not for long. We headed off down the glen aiming for Fort William when the rain started. In and out of heavy showers became the theme as we made slow, steady progress. The atmospheric climb into Glencoe saw the immense 3-sisters mountians in their glory, even in the rain it was beautiful. At least we were travelling slow enough to take it all in. By Tyndrum we were cold and wet, a coffee stop gave us just enough momentum to complete the last leg before splitting for home. Tough going at times but a good time was had by all.
Next big weekend away is the Midgie Masher at Ellon in August…don’t miss out, get it booked.
